Ann Marie Brick, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease and cancer. Ann Marie was born on March 11, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, at Mercy Hospital. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Walter and Mary Brick, and her older brother, Joseph. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 42 years, Dennis, her children Andrew (Kate Kodet) of Reseda, California, and Jennifer of Morrison, Colorado, and her four beautiful grandchildren, Tila, Jaxson, Wilder, and River. Ann Marie is also survived by her siblings Pat (Kathie), Jim (Gail Sullivan), John, and Mary Ellen, and her sister-in-law, Linda Rule (Dennis). After high school, Ann Marie entered the convent briefly before earning her undergraduate degree from Drake University. She went on to obtain a master’s degree in special education from the University of Northern Colorado and later returned to Drake University to earn her law degree, graduating near the top of her class from Drake Law School in 1980.She began her legal career in private practice, but spent the majority of her career serving the public, first as an Assistant Attorney General where she supervised up to 50 attorneys, and later as General Counsel for the Iowa Department of Education. From 1991 to 1994, Ann Marie and her husband took a sabbatical from their professional careers and moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where they operated a flower shop and enjoyed time outdoors with their children. In 1994, they returned to Des Moines and resumed their careers in law. Ann Marie was known for her love of people. She never met a stranger and was loved in return by all who met her. She was vibrant, adventurous, and full of life. She climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, rode RAGBRAI, ran ultramarathons, and even in the last months of her life, joined her grandchildren on the wildest rides at amusement parks. She had a deep love for the outdoors, and enjoyed mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and camping. Ann Marie Brick’s spirit, strength, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of courage, kindness, and joy.
