Obituary
Nancy Ann (McCormick) Emerson died Monday, July 4, 2016 in Des Moines, Iowa from complications following knee surgery. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, Iowa. Cremation will follow services and private burial of the urn will be held at a later date.
We'd like to share some of Nancy's thoughts with our family and friends: "I was born in Junction City, Kansas on June 21, 1944 to a loving, caring and nurturing family. I spent my early years in Chapman, Kansas surrounded by fun-loving and mischievous family and friends. It was here I first learned the true value of family and friends. I lived a joyous life and my greatest gifts are my children, grandchildren, and great- granddaughter. Family comes first, and I was happiest being a mom, grandmother and aunt to many. Community was always important to me, and together with my husband Joe, we built a successful small business and worked with many local charities. Spending time with family and friends, golfing, traveling and playing cards brought me tremendous joy as did actively participating in parish life, first at St. Theresa's and currently at St. Boniface."
Nancy is survived by her husband M. Joseph "Joe" Emerson and their children: Marty (Kristi) Emerson, Ann Emerson Percak, Michael (Christi) Emerson, Michelle (Ben) Russell and Mark Emerson; grandchildren, Jacob (Kim) Emerson, Megan Nethercut, Hannah Nethercut, Alexandra Emerson, Spencer Emerson, Emily Percak, Tommy Emerson, Maxwell Percak, Winnie Russell and Wyatt Russell; great granddaughter, Mabel Nethercut and her siblings Theresa (Jim) Liewer, Kelly (David) Jones, Susie (Fran) King and Bob (Michelle) McCormick; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray & Laura McCormick, her grandparents and her nephew, Kellen Jones.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed toward Catholic Charities, Diocese of Des Moines. Online condolences are welcome at IlesCares.com.
